'The Challenge' Season 40 Trailer Sees CT Exit on a Stretcher

The Challenge’s 40th season promises to be a true battle of the eras.

“If you’re here, it’s because you’ve been a part of Challenge history,” host TJ Lavin says in the first trailer for The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras, released by MTV on Tuesday, July 16. “We’ve chosen the toughest players in 40 seasons.”

The upcoming season will feature 40 competitors from across the show’s history — including legends Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio, Tori Deal, Aneesa Ferreira, Derrick Kosinski, Mark Long, Cara Maria Sorbello, Laurel Stucky, Chris “CT” Tamburello, Darrell Taylor and Jordan Wiseley — all competing for their share of a $1 million prize. The contestants will be split up into four “eras” based on when they joined the franchise.

“Every time we turn around, there’s another twist,” Devenanzio, 42, says in the trailer.

Sorbello, 38, adds, “We don’t know how it’s going to be played out.”

But the Challengers can certainly count on there being drama between the longtime competitors.

“I didn’t like you before, I don’t like you now and I won’t like you after this,” Amanda Garcia tells Deal, 31, in the trailer.

Garcia, 30, and Deal have butted heads for years, both on the show and on social media. When The Challenge: USA season 2 announced its cast in July 2023, Deal posted a cast photo with a clown emoji over Garcia’s face, which caused the mom of 4-year-old son Avonni to respond by calling the Challenge winner “a botched clout chaser” and “a steroid injecting prostitute.” Deal accused Garcia of libeling her, but Garcia continue to tell Deal not to “throw stones when you live in a glass house.”

Devenanzio has also historically been a target on the show since he holds the most wins with seven. “What you do today is going to burn your a-- tomorrow,” he says in the trailer. “I am the right hand of the devil.”

The preview sees one player driving off a cliff, another dangling from a skyscraper and Tamburello, 44, being carried off on a stretcher after a fall during a Challenge.

“My back! I’m trying to move,” Tamburello cries as he enters an ambulance.

Lavin, 47, teases that viewers “have never seen a battle like this before.”

“If they want a battle, it’s war,” Sorbello says.

Earlier this week, Wiseley, 33, posted on Instagram about wanting to get back in shape after participating in The Challenge 40.

“When I say ‘a challenge house is one of the worst environments to be in’ I’m not exaggerating,” the four-time winner wrote on Sunday, July 14. “This one was by far the worst treatment we’ve ever received as a cast and it’s taken a toll.”

Wiseley alleged in an Instagram Reel that, while filming the show, he and the cast were “treated like s---, we sleep like s---, we are fed like s---, our schedules are dog s---.” The reality star claimed he regularly worked 20-hour days during shooting, and therefore lost his physical strength.

His fellow season 40 competitor Theo Campbell commented, “I didn’t even get a pair of shoes that fitted for the whole time!!”

Stucky, 39, concurred in he comments, “WE DECAY,” and Nehemiah Clark, also a contestant on Battle of the Eras, wrote, “I feel like you were talking directly to me.”
